Cyclic structure & research formulation
A cyclic peptide’s identity includes its ring structure, while its research record includes the particular formulation tested. Both details matter when comparing a reference with a supplied research material.

A defined research formulation
A 2006 Journal of Sexual Medicine paper described a small randomized, double-blind crossover experiment with an intranasal investigational formulation. Its design and formulation are part of the historical record.
A crossover design compares conditions within participants according to a study protocol. It does not make every differently formulated product containing the reference compound equivalent to the investigational material.

The ring belongs in the identity
The reference structure is cyclic. A linear residue list without the ring closure can omit a meaningful structural feature. Use the full reference structure when comparing the chemical identity.
Terminal groups, salt form and formulation ingredients also need their own records. A shared abbreviation does not resolve these details.
