A peptide family with distinct members
Several distinct peptides share a family name. The alpha-1 reference has its own sequence and isolation history, which should not be mixed with evidence on beta-family members.

The 1977 isolation and sequence paper
A 1977 PNAS paper reported the isolation and amino-acid sequence of the alpha-1 peptide from calf thymus. The authors described a 28-residue molecule and proposed a naming system for related peptides in the extract.
That naming history explains why the family label alone is insufficient. Multiple defined peptides were present in the starting material, and their individual identities mattered to the research.

Alpha and beta are not interchangeable labels
The alpha-1 reference and beta-family peptides are separate sequences. They differ in length and molecular identity. Research on one should not be cited as a direct experiment on the other.
When searching or reading a paper, preserve the full family member and the exact sequence. A broad family search can retrieve relevant history, but it can also mix evidence on different materials.

From an isolation study to a modern vial
An early isolation from tissue describes how researchers characterized a reference peptide. It does not mean a current synthetic catalog vial is a tissue extract or shares the same preparation method.
Use the specifications for structural comparison and the lot report for measured identity and content. Keep origin, reference structure and supplied-batch documentation as three separate entries in a research record.
