Why the exact peptide sequence matters
Short catalog names can conceal an important sequence question. This article separates the history of the full-length reference peptide from fragments and other materials discussed under related names.

The full-length reference in early research
A 1981 PNAS paper reported the complete amino-acid sequence of a bovine thymus peptide: a 43-residue chain with an acetylated N-terminus. A 1982 biochemical characterization provided further work on this family of material.
These dates describe specific research records. They do not establish that every later catalog abbreviation refers to the same full-length sequence.

Why a fragment is not the whole peptide
A fragment contains only part of a longer chain. Even when it shares a familiar label or a sequence motif, it has its own length, molecular formula and research record. The full-length reference and a shorter fragment should be tracked as separate identities.
For this catalog entry, use the supplier’s exact sequence and lot documentation to resolve the supplied identity. Do not infer a 43-residue chain solely from a short product name, and do not copy a fragment’s molecular weight into a full-length specification.
